We still have to wait for the official release of the new Yamaha Tenere 700, but with the bike easily the most hotly anticipated Yamaha in a generation Yamaha have continued to keep us frothing over the new bike by releasing the official Yamaha accessories list, including NZ pricing.
Priced at $16,999 plus on road costs, the Yamaha Tenere 700 is easily one of the most affordable entry points into the mid-sized adventure market. With the nearest competitor in the mid-sized adventure category being Moto Guzzi's V85 TT (priced from $19,990) that still leaves a good handful of cash to spend on accessories to personalise the Tenere.
With Yamaha Moto New Zealand touring three pre-production Tenere 700s for the Trans Tasman Tenere Tour – one in each colour – with varying accessories on each, it is clear the new Tenere has a wide scope for modification utilising the official Yamaha accessories. On show for those gathered at the Tenere Tour was a bike kitted out fully with official Yamaha luggage, one with the full lowering kit, and one decked out fully for adventure with the rally seat, Akrapovic exhaust and gnarly knobbie tyres.
Interestingly, despite the set of four LED headlights and LED tail light, the indicators for the Tenere 700 are traditional bulb units off the factory floor, with riders needing to fork out an extra $194 if they want to drop the bulbs in their indicators.
While Yamaha Motor NZ hasn't made an official comment on the matter (it seems odd to offer a bike with LED lighting but not in the indicators) this could be a reflection of the Tenere's price point, which Yamaha has said elsewhere has been kept in check to remain competitive.
