Harley-Davidson LiveWire Becomes LiveWire ONE - Price Cut Announced

Harley-Davidson has announced a new name for its LiveWire electric motorcycle along with a hefty price cut.

Since the Motor Co. spun the LiveWire motorcycle off as its own self-titled brand, we’ve wondered what the bike itself would be called moving forward (LiveWire LiveWire doesn’t exactly work.) Harley has confirmed that the LiveWire will be known henceforth as the LiveWire ONE as the first model in the LiveWire brand’s lineup.

Apart from new colours for the bike’s plastic body panels, the LiveWire ONE is still predominantly the Harley-Davidson LiveWire underneath. Harley claims the new LiveWire features evolved software and hardware and that the LiveWire ONE “builds on the experience of the original LiveWire and reflects the new identity of the LiveWire brand”, however, the specs appear much the same.

Range remains unchanged with a maximum of 235km in urban settings with a fast charge time of one hour using a DC fast charger compared to the 12 hours of a standard wall socket.

Harley-Davidson hasn’t stated anything regarding the spec of the motor so we assume the performance figures remain 105hp and a 0-100km/h time of 3-seconds for the LiveWire ONE.

Perhaps the biggest news, however, is that along with the new name the LiveWire ONE is also getting a much-needed pricing change. Back when the LiveWire was originally launched in mid-2019 it commanded a price of US$29,799 in the USA. While New Zealand pricing is yet to be confirmed with the current Harley-Davidson branded LiveWire retailing for a whopping $53,995 (approx. US$37,580) the LiveWire ONE is dropping to a much more attainable US$21,999.

Considering how uptake for the LiveWire has been sluggish in the least the price cut might help some prospective riders take the leap onto the electric LiveWire One.

"As part of The Hardwire Strategy, we made a commitment that Harley-Davidson would lead in electric,” said Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President and CEO of Harley-Davidson.

“We recognised the pioneering spirit and brand value in LiveWire for our community and took the decision to evolve the original LiveWire motorcycle into a dedicated EV brand. Today's LiveWire ONE builds on the DNA of Harley-Davidson but with the electric focus and ambition of the new LiveWire brand. Harley-Davidson and LiveWire will continue to rewrite the motorcycle rulebook and we are excited about this next chapter in our legacy."
